My paintings are an investigation of contemporary, iconic and stereotypical representations of women and female beauty in the media, as well as my individuated response to these standardized images. Most frequently I react to these types of images through a specific process of dress up, photography, photo-editing, and finally, painting. The paintings reference specific stereotypes, icons or elements taken from either advertising or fashion media, whether it is a pattern from a recent fashion collection, styling taken from a fashion photograph, or a specific pose from an advertisement. In this way I build a relationship between my paintings and the culture I am responding to, while also providing the viewer with signifiers from the media.
